Online dating platforms like Colombian cupid.com ( cupid media websites in general ) are full of online dating scammers. In this article we will go trough the most common Colombian online dating scams, and how they usually operate. The problem with these kind of sites is that they are no verifications or screenings, anyone can register and and upload pictures of attractive girls. One of my Colombian friends, told me that it is well kwon that Colombian inmates use this site, pretending to be attractive Colombian girls, in order to get money from foreigners. This websites are full of scammers, that create profiles uniquely to scam foreign men.
1. Once you send one of these pretty girls a message, they will reply and give to her WhatsApp number immediately ( No matter how young she is ) Once you have started a conversation on WhatsApp, soon she will ask you for some money, in general it is about 30 000 cop ( just 7 dollars ) I was told that Colombian inmates use this website just to get a prepaid phone recharge. Usually they will pretend to money issues and will ask you for money for food or to pay electricity bills ( or similar )
2. When you tell them that you are in their city already and you want to meet up, they will ask you to send money via Nequi ( Colombian digital payment system ) so they can pay for an uber to get to the meeting point. It is quiet common that they claim to be just outside of Bogota, so they can charge more money for the Uber.
They will always refuse, if you offer to send them an uber to their home to get to the meeting point, and pay it with your credit card. They will just insist that you send them the money via Nequi.
3. If you demand a videocall, they will always tell you that they need money to charge their phone first, and will ask you to send 30 000 pesos in order to be able to charge their phone. In the end you will never get to see them, because you are not talking to the pretty girl, but a guy.
4. Some girls on these kind of websites are real, and will agree meeting you right away, without asking for money first. That’s when things can get really expensive or even dangerous.
In these cases you have to make sure that you will set the location for the meeting.
– Do not go to her neighborhood if she lives in a lower strato area ( strato 1-2 ) Sometimes strato 3 can be unsafe too. 80 % Bogota ( and other Colombian major cities are strato 1,2,3 ) This can be extremely unsafe for you because these areas are ruled by gangs or tiefs and no foreigner ever shows up there.
– Make sure you use a cafe or other non expensive location for the date.
If you let her choose the location chances are high that she will take you to the most expensive restaurant of the city. Even in a low cost country like Colombia, in Bogota there are restaurants that can cost up to 700 USD ( for 2 persons)
5. Another very common thing on Colombian cupid these kind of websites is sextortion. The scammer will send you nudes of a pretty girl via WhatsApp and will demand you to do the same. Once you do it the scammer will blackmail you and demand money, if not your pictures will be published.
6. There are also many prostitutes that will offer your their services. In many cases they will offer their “content” sex videos and pictures for sale. See below

– Don’t even waste time using these kind of websites, because they are just full of scammers ( inmates trying to get some money ) if the girls are real, they almost always are the worst kind and most impudent girls that exist in the country.
– If you still do, do never money money to anyone no matter what.
– Do never send photos of your intimate parts to anyone.
