Trip Advisor, the world’s largest travel website bestowed the Colombian capital Bogota it´s Travellers’ Choice award for being considered one of the most popular international tourist destinations, according to votings and opinions of its millions of users.
This award is conferred on the basis of the comments and opinions of thousands of web users. The winning destinations are chosen based on their popularity rated by travelers.
The award to the city was delivered by Ronaldo da Silva, manager of sales and marketing for Latin America Index and the director of the Institute of Tourism, Luis Fernando Rosas Londoño.
Ronaldo da Silva said that “The winning destinations offer something unique to every type of traveler, so this award is a great honor but also a great challenge for the local tourism sector.”
TripAdvisor was founded in February 2000 as an impartial resource for researching and planning all aspects of a trip. Today, the site is considered to be the best travel planning resources in the world and is present in 34 countries and in 21 languages.
In Colombia, the page has 2,408 TripAdvisor accommodations, 735 attractions and 2,458 restaurants. According to the site, a total of 2455.944 TripAdvisor users visit the national sites across all domains. 6,762,064 searches of tourist content of the country are made, and Bogota is the most requested destination, followed by San Andres, Cartagena, Santa Marta and Medellin.
